Subject: Superb Audience recording
Oade Bros did a great job on this recording, nice stereo and dynamic range, sounds like you are there! The levels could have been a little higher, but otherwise a really good recording. the levels can be fixed easily, IMHO. Powerhouse set and a KILLER performance from the boys...summer '89 is one the Dead's best tours in their career.

Subject: Great sound
Just wanted to reiterate how great of an AUD recording this is. I'm pretty much a soundboard snob, but those Oade boys sure did a number on this one. In addition to that, you have a greatest hits - style setlist in the second set, albeit very predictable. Fun tape, excellent sound.

Subject: magical ethereal uncle john's band
Garcia's solos on this song [the Dead's masterpiece], which consist of delicate countermelodies, are most beautiful and poignant -- they are among his best work, and the overall work of the band on this is also outstanding

Some consider 89 pretty formularic...Perhaps, but the formula worked!! This tape is such a fun ride -

great Brent...
Bobby's pretty much on...
Jerry's having fun at the were we.

Energy is tremendous granted, for 89, but it was a great August out west.

This is a very strong audience tape, quality-wise --- donot skip this one.

Just listen to "The Other One" and you'll have an idea of what this show was like. There aren't enough stars for rating this show.
